Chicago Bears: 5 offensive line targets in 2018 NFL Draft
5. Alex Cappa, G/T (Humboldt State)
Cappa caught the eyes of Chicago Bears fans back at the Senior Bowl, as they knew he could end up this year’s Jordan Morgan-type intrigue pick in the middle rounds.
In particular, two things stand out about Cappa that Bears fans would love on sight.
First of all, he towers over everything at 6’7″, 305 pounds but plays with great athleticism for his size. And secondly, he’s just really, really mean.
In fact, Mike Mayock has said that Cappa has “the nastiest tape he’s ever seen.” Whatever you think of Mayock, that’s saying something. That guy has watched a lot of college tape. And Cappa certainly did his part to show everyone that at Mobile.
Right now, that’s more or less it as far as Cappa’s concerned as people have questions about how he’ll translate to the next level.
Not unlike Adam Shaheen last year, Cappa didn’t face elite competition at Humboldt State. As such, he could get away with just overwhelming people physically. Can he refine his technique quickly and make a difference immediately in the NFL?
Maybe not. That will probably take a bit.
Next: Bears should pursue Robert Quinn if cut
But he has the athletic ability and demeanor to succeed in the NFL. Plus, a monster Combine could boost him up to an early Day 3 pick.
Might the Chicago Bears use one of their fourth-round picks on him? If they did, that’s probably a very solid mid-round get for Pace.
