Jimmy Butler may not suit up against his former team on Saturday night after suffering a scary injury.

Friday night, the Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Western Conference powerhouse Houston Rockets. In the third quarter, Jimmy Butler suffered what appeared to be a serious non-contact knee injury.

Butler was carried off the floor.

Head coach Tom Thibodeau said after the game that they will know more in the coming hours and he is unsure exactly what happened with Butler.

“You’ve got to wait for the doctors to do their thing,” Thibodeau told ESPN.

In any event, the news of the injury puts Butler’s status in doubt going forward. Saturday night, the Wolves return home to square off against the Chicago Bulls. Of course, Butler along with Thibodeau know them all too well.

These are the games you want badly to be able to play in if you’re Butler. The Bulls, for a while while he was in Chicago, had Butler available in trade discussions. For what seemed like every season in his final three years with the Bulls, his name came up around the deadline.

To Bulls fans, it never made sense. It is well-known that the current Chicago front office has had its share of criticism over the years and the Butler saga was yet another prime example. Butler is one of the top two-way players in all of basketball, yet the Bulls never seemed attached to him.

Now in Minnesota, Butler is thriving with his new team. He has averaged 22.2 points on 47 percent shooting to go along with five assists, five rebounds and nearly two steals per game. He also leads the league in minutes — surprise, surprise.

Unfortunately for the Bulls fans hoping to see their former beloved star on the court Saturday night, that doesn’t appear likely to happen. We, here at Da Windy City, can only hope for the best for Butler and wish him a speedy recovery.
