If the Chicago Bears can’t sign the likes of Allen Robinson, Jarvis Landry or Sammy Watkins, how else could they address the wide receiver position this offseason?

All Chicago Bears fans have been prepping for since the season ended is the possibility of grabbing a high-priced free agent wide receiver (or two) to help out Mitch Trubisky, Matt Nagy, and the hopefully explosive new Bears offense.

Now, the Bears and their fans find themselves faced with the potentially disappointing prospect of missing out on all those exciting options.

Not through any fault of their own, of course. But there’s a reason teams get to negotiate contracts with their impending free agents before the rest of the league joins the fray. If they can, they’ll make sure those guys never hit the open market.

So we are seeing now.

Under the threat of Allen Robinson making bank in free agency, the Jacksonville Jaguars are exploring placing the franchise tag on their star receiver while they work out a longer-term deal (and see how his surgically repaired knee holds up after ACL surgery).

Furthermore, the much-sought-after Jarvis Landry and the Miami Dolphins have been working on a deal for him to stay in Miami for the foreseeable future.

That, in particular, will be a gut punch for Chicago Bears fans who have been penciling him into the offense for weeks now.

And though he’s not as popular as the previous two, Sammy Watkins could also stay with the Los Angeles Rams on a franchise tag or short-term deal.

So, what do the Chicago Bears do if they miss out on all of the supposed top free agent receivers before free agency begins?

Here are a few “Plan B” options for improving the wide receiver position in 2018.
