Fans have wanted this guy for months. Is it about to happen?

In 2015, the Chicago Bears lost their number one wide receiver to another team via trade. In 2017, they lost their number one wide receiver via free agency. Times without Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery haven’t been easy on the offense, but they soon could be getting better.

With free agency looming, there are a lot of names linked to the Bears by various sources. Two of them, in particular, seem to be gaining a little steam. Chad Forbes reported having been told that Chicago could add both Allen Robinson and Trey Burton in March.

It is far from a sure thing, of course. But, there have been crazier rumors going around as of late and this one is far from that. In fact, it’s quite realistic. Ryan Pace is well aware he needs to add weapons and competition to wide receiver and tight end. The Bears have about $40 million in cap space and could end up with closer to $80 million after making cuts.

Robinson would give Chicago the true number one guy they have been lacking. While many believe that Jarvis Landry is the player the Bears should pursue, he’s not the big body type who can go up and catch contested balls. Mitch Trubisky needs that type of target.

Burton, on the other hand, is a fantastic athlete with great hands. He would be a nice one-two punch at tight end with Adam Shaheen developing in his second year. Giving Trubisky two big bodied security blankets with good hands could prove to be exactly what this offense needs.

If Pace can find a way to snatch both of these guys up, I don’t think anyone would question his ability in free agency anymore. In years past, he has had some pretty awful signings. But, 2018 seems to be the year where Ted Phillips is finally taking the leash off and letting Pace do his job.

Will Chicago be able to bring in two of the most coveted offensive free agents this spring? We, here at Da Windy City, can only hope.
