A media report seems to be skipping one all-important factor in the Kyle Fuller sweepstakes.

First of all, let’s cut to the chase. If you have been even the slightest bit aware of any Chicago Bears news in the last 24 hours, you would know there has been a report regarding cornerback Kyle Fuller and the speculation that his time in Chicago is done.

Rushing to an initial reaction is only natural for anyone to do. But, let us remember in this case, that the report came from Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. There is a running joke going in the circle of Bears fans that La Canfora has really never been right on any news regarding the team in years.

This is the same guy who said it was very likely Vic Fangio winds up with the Washington Redskins in 2015, prior to him finding a home in Chicago. This is the same guy who, a year ago, said the Bears are making it their top offseason priority to trade for Jimmy Garoppolo — then with the New England Patriots.

These are just two of the most recent hit-and-miss reports from La Canfora regarding the Bears. So, with that said, don’t take this report to heart if you are a Bears fan.

Like I said — a running joke.

The biggest point La Canfora fails to address in all of this, though, is the fact that Chicago could choose to franchise tag Fuller. All of this uproar would be a complete waste of time and Fuller would be one of the NFL’s top paid cornerbacks for 2018. If he plays lights out, chances are he will be a Bear for years to come.

So, the real question is, why didn’t La Canfora take the franchise tag into consideration? The ball is in the Bears’ court. They hold all of the power at this point. The worst-case scenario for Fuller and the Bears is that, God forbid, he refuses to play under the tag — I wouldn’t worry about that.

Bears fans, just relax. Anytime a rumor breaks out regarding Chicago sports, it’s easy to run with it and watch all craziness break loose. It’s understandable. After all, sports are essentially a way of life in the Windy City.

However, in the case of this particular report, I would suggest addressing all of the facts first. And the fact of the matter is, there are no facts — except a report from someone who is never correct on anything related to the Bears.

Take a step back, take a breath and remember that the Bears can bring back their top cornerback if they so choose. It’s not up to Fuller, nor is it up to any rumor or media report. It’s up to those beloved Bears.
