Chicago White Sox: Logan Morrison could fit Sox’s plans
Could the Chicago White Sox take a chance on a power-hitting lefty Logan Morrison at an affordable price?
The Chicago White Sox season is coming fast as pitchers and catchers report in just nine more days.
However, major free agents such as Eric Hosmer, Jake Arrieta and Yu Darvish remain unsigned with just a little over a week to go.
While the White Sox certainly wouldn’t think about any of the remaining major names, one name could pose an intriguing option at designated hitter for the South Siders: Logan Morrison.

Somehow, Morrison hasn’t received a ton of attention this offseason. The first baseman hit a career-high 38 home runs last season for Tampa Bay and earned a spot on the American League All-Star Game Final Vote.
For next-gen statisticians, Morrison notched a 3.6 WAR (wins above replacement), which would’ve placed third on the White Sox in 2017 behind Jose Abreu (4.7) and Avisail Garcia (4.5).
In addition to his power numbers, Morrison would fit especially well in the Chicago White Sox lineup given the fact that he’s a lefty. Nicky Delmonico, who made just 141 at-bats in 2017, is currently the only lefty on the Chicago White Sox’s projected opening day roster.
Despite the upside, there are some serious concerns when considering signing Morrison.
“LoMo” hit just .246 in 2017 with a whopping 149 strikeouts (50 more than his previous season high). Those home run and strikeout numbers are eerily similar to former Chicago White Sox designated hitters Adam Dunn and Adam LaRoche, both of whom did not have the most memorable stints on the South Side.

As of February, Matt Davidson is the clear-cut option at designated hitter. Whether Rick Hahn and the front office decide to make a move for an upgrade or not is unknown. But for now, the White Sox could probably survive without that luxury.
