Heading into 2018, the Chicago Bears need all the help at the receiving position they can get. Could the answer be Donte Moncrief?

For the Bears, it’s not possible to get much worse at the wide receiver position than they were in the 2017 season. They ranked among the bottom in almost every category the NFL has when it comes to receivers. I guess that’s what happens when Josh Bellamy and Kendall Wright are the teams’ number one receiving options.

More from Chicago Bears

Instead of spending major money on a receiver, like Jarvis Landry. Or spending the number eight pick on a player like Calvin Ridley, the answer could be Donte Moncrief.

For Moncrief, a four-year veteran in the NFL, a change of scenery could be in the best of interest if he wants to further his career. The quarterback position is still in question in Indianapolis, nobody knows if Andrew Luck will ever play another down in the NFL again. And if he does choose the Bears, one thing is for certain, Chicago already has their franchise QB for at least the next 10 seasons in Mitchell Trubisky.

Despite not being the number one option for four season with the Colts, as he was behind perennial ball-hog TY Hilton. Moncrief still managed to exceed over 300 yards in each season, including reaching 744 yards his second season. Last season in limited games due to injury, Donte still managed to catch 26 passes for 391 yards, good enough for 15 yards per reception.

The question is still out there whether or not Moncrief could become a legitimate number one option on an NFL team. But with the Bears not having any threats to his playing time, and under new head coach Matt Nagy, Moncrief might show himself to be worth the Bears time.

If the Bears are not wanting to pay Jarvis Landry the $14 million that he wants on an average annual salary, a much cheaper option could be former Colts receiver Donte Moncrief. It is not out of the question that Moncrief will be commanding at least half of what Landry wants, making him a much better signing.
