Matt Nagy hire a win for Chicago Bears, especially Trubisky and Cohen
Nagy loves Mitch Trubisky
There may not have been a more important requirement of the head coaching candidates the Chicago Bears sought than loving Trubisky.
How could you coach this team if you didn’t want to work with Trubisky, Pace’s hand-picked quarterback?
Well, don’t worry about that here. Nagy’s fandom for the Bears’ hopeful franchise signal caller goes back to the draft process last season, as told by Jahns.
"The Chiefs and Nagy were said to be very high on Bears quarterback Mitch Trubisky coming out of the draft last year. After the Bears drafted Trubisky, the Chiefs traded up and selected Patrick Mahomes with the 10th overall pick."
If the Bears didn’t make the move they did, could you imagine that? Trubisky with the Chiefs? Maybe the Chiefs wouldn’t have been daring enough to trade for the second-overall pick, but that should tell you a bit about how highly people thought of him last season.
Now, Nagy gets to work with the kid that may have been his first choice in the draft last year. Having worked with a very accurate quarterback in Smith since 2013, I’d expect him to utilize similar offensive concepts to enhance Trubisky’s strengths.
On paper, the Chicago Bears accomplished their most important objective with this hire: get a guy who can help take Trubisky to the next level.
Given his connections to Reid, I’m sure he can put together a good staff overall as well. Perhaps he could even retain Vic Fangio, if Fangio were open to it. But make no mistake: Nagy’s top priority will be turning Trubisky into a star.
Oh, and Nagy could help another young Chicago Bears offensive player take off as well…
