Notre Dame: How Houston Griffith commitment elevates football program
Notre Dame just locked up a huge win as a program in nabbing star defensive back recruit Houston Griffith.
Last month, we covered the fact that high school defensive back Houston Griffith (Bradenton, Fla) had de-committed from Florida State and gave Notre Dame another chance to snap him up.
Yesterday, the Irish got that much closer to sealing the deal on their biggest recruiting win of the year yet.
New broke that Griffith verbally committed to Notre Dame last night, touching off a firestorm of optimism from the Irish nation.
Griffith immediately jumps right in as the Irish’s top recruit at #63 nationally (#11 cornerback) and gives Notre Dame another playmaker in its secondary.

At 6’1”, 192 pounds, Griffith has the speed and athleticism to play on the outside along with the size and physicality to play safety. In fact, safety may be the position that he projects best at long-term.
Either way, Notre Dame will be getting a very good, very versatile player soon.
And at this time, Griffith’s commitment to Notre Dame does more than just land one more talented name on the list.
Landing him just scored a major win for Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame football program as a whole.
