Fandom250: Chicago Cubs have best fans in MLB; other major Chicago sports make list
The Chicago Cubs make a big splash in the Fandom250 list again in 2017, rankings as the top fan base in baseball. And our other Chicago sports fans represented, too.
As you may or may not have known, FanSided just released its Fandom250 list ranking the best fan bases in the country for a variety of topics. After the Chicago Cubs topped last year’s list, we expected a solid showing from them and other Chicago sports teams once again.
And naturally, Chicago fans proved that they belong up there with the best in the nation. .
Chicago Cubs cracked the list at #12 and had the #1 fan base in all of Major League Baseball, according to the Fandom250 rankings. And why wouldn’t they?
The long-suffering fan base is now enjoying the best baseball it’s seen on the North Side of town probably ever, with the Cubs making the NLCS three straight seasons. And of course, they captured their first World Series title in 108 years last season in an event none of us will ever forget.
Through all the ups and downs, Chicago Cubs fans have come out in force to support their team, staying in the top half of the league’s attendance rankings even when the North Siders weren’t winning. This year, the Cubs ranked sixth overall in attendance with an average of 39,500 people showing up to Cubs games.
And when you look at how our Chicago Cubs posts do on our site in terms of viewership, it’s no wonder the Cubs topped the MLB’s Fandom250 list. You guys are awesome, and we at DaWindyCity.com thank you for it.
Chicago White Sox supporters, we’ll be watching out for you to crack the top ten of this list in a couple years.

And don’t worry, everyone: our other major Chicago sports got some love on the Fandom250 list, too.
The Chicago Blackhawks came in at #77 overall (#3 among NHL fans), a nod to hockey’s steady popularity in this town despite everything else going on.
Of course, it always helps that the Blackhawks always have at least an outside chance to win a Stanley Cup with Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane roaming the ice. The team might be slightly off its game right now, but Blackhawk fans sure aren’t.
Meanwhile, the Chicago Bulls broke in at #135 overall (#9 in NBA), which is really impressive given how rough the team has had it in recent months. Fortunately, even with the Bulls being on the way to a high pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, Kris Dunn and Lauri Markkanen keep giving us reasons to watch.
Plus, the Bulls’ rendition of Fight Club, starring Nikola Mirotic and Bobby Portis, is entertaining in a train wreck sort of way. Anyway, rock on, Bulls fans. We salute you.
And even in a year where it looks like the Chicago Bears will could have a top-10 pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, their fans still checked in at #181 (#15 in NFL). Just more proof that even when Chicago sports are struggling, the fans stick with the teams.

So, if anyone asks you who owns this town right now, it looks like it’s all about the Chicago Cubs. Then again, let’s see if the Chicago Bears will have something to say about that next year once this dreadful season is over. We’ll see.
