Chicago Bears vs San Francisco 49ers: 5 players to watch
By Eric Brown
Defensive End: Solomon Thomas
As the 2017 NFL Draft approached, the Bears had a few decisions to make. Would they be selecting a Quarterback with the number 3 pick? After all, they had just signed Mike Glennon to a very lucrative contract, so why would they draft a position they don’t need?
In one of the most shocking moves in recent memory during any NFL Draft, GM Ryan Pace made the decision to make a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. The Bears got the second pick in the draft, while the 49ers would make out with the Bears first, third, and fourth round selections, including a third rounder in the 2018 draft.
So far, the Bears pick of Mitchell Trubisky is hard to decipher. He has not played up to the billing of a usual 2nd overall pick, however the coaching staff has played a key part in Trubisky not developing yet. So the Bears got their QB of the future possibly, they could have had Solomon Thomas instead.
In 9 games with the San Francisco 49ers, Thomas has amassed 24 total tackles, including 2 sacks. On a line with Akiem Hicks, and Eddie Goldman, they likely would have formed a trio that opposing offensive lines would be scared of.
