Chicago State Basketball: Cougars finish off East-West

CHICAGO, IL - OCTOBER 30: A photographer shoots waves generated from the remnants Hurricane Sandy as they crash into the shoreline of Lake Michigan on October 30, 2012 in Chicago, Illinois. Waves up to 25 feet high generated by winds up to 50 miles-per-hour were expected on the lake. The storm has claimed at least 16 lives in the United States, and has caused massive flooding across much of the Atlantic seaboard. US President Barack Obama has declared the situation a 'major disaster' for large areas of the US East Coast including New York City. (Photo by Scott Olson/Getty Images)

Coming off two straight blow out losses on the road, the Cougars were back at home. They pulled out the victory 113-65.

Usually, when a blowout of this magnitude happens, it is a high D-1 power playing a lowly D-1 school looking to make some cash. Just look at the Cougars last two games against Notre Dame and Northern Iowa, 39 and 38 point losses respectively. This time though, the Chicago State Cougars, one of the worst teams in all of college ball took on an Independent non Division 1 school, who are technically an intramural program.

As a team, Chicago State has been, well, whatever is less than less impressive this season. They are currently scoring only 63 points per game, while giving up 89.2, a -26.2 scoring margin. One of the worst in college basketball.

Offensively, the Cougars are challenged. And not in a good way, only shooting 36% from the field, and 22% from 3. The odds of things turning around for this young program are slim, and a win is a win. Even if that win comes against what is technically an intramural team.

From an individual standpoint, not much stands out for the Chicago State Cougars. Fred Sims Jr currently leads the team with just under 13 ppg, not a single other player averages more than 9.

Things do not get much easier for the Cougars, they next take on the UMBC Retrievers of the American East as part of the Battle 4 Atlantis Tournament.

If they, now take this for how you want, somehow find a way to pull off a victory, there is a great chance they play Nicholls State or Presbyterian.
