NFC North First-Half Recap
Last Place: Chicago Bears (3-5)
The Chicago Bears weren’t expected to do anything significant in 2017. Despite sitting in last place, the Bears have overachieved in the first half.
At 3-5, the Bears don’t find themselves at all out of the playoff picture. Led by their dominant defense and potent running attack, the Bears have continued to shock the NFL.
Rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky has given the Bears the consistency that they needed from the quarterback position. The contributions of fellow rookies Tarik Cohen and a Eddie Jackson have too went a long way in the Bears first-half success.
The only thing in the Bears way of becoming a serious contender is their lack of any sort of production coming from the wide receivers. Tight-end Zach Miller had been the Bears only legitimate pass-catcher, but will now miss the remainder of the season with a leg injury.

The record doesn’t lie- the Bears chance at a playoff berth isn’t great. But they certainly aren’t out of it. If the defense continues to do it’s thing, and if a consistent receiving core can develop, the Bears can make a run.
