Notre Dame: Fighting Irish ranked 3rd in initial CFP rankings
By Eric Brown
The first college football playoff rankings were released on Tuesday night, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish were ranked 3rd in the first rankings.
There is no question about it, Notre Dame football has been on a magical carpet ride to greatness this season. After a season opening loss to Georgia, who is now the number 1 ranked team, the Irish have ran off 7 straight wins. In the past two weeks, the team has faced two top 15 opponents, they demolished both of them. The University of Southern California lost to Notre Dame by a score of 49-14, and a prime time beating of NC State by the score of 35-14.
If you were to tell me before the regular season began that Notre Dame was going to be ranked 3rd in the first playoff rankings, I would have laughed in your face.

This was supposed to be the season that Notre Dame finally fell apart, this was the season they Brian Kelly’s weaknesses would finally be exposed. Only, none of that has happened and the school looks smarter than ever in keeping Kelly around for another year after last season’s disaster.
Part of the reason for the team winning so much is running back Josh Adams. It took a few weeks for Adams to get some Heisman talk, but after putting up 202 yards on the ground against the stellar Wolfpack defense, he is square in the race for the coveted award. Through 8 games on the season, Adams has ran for just under 1200 total yards, 11 touchdowns, and an unbelievable 8.9 yards per carry.
Despite being ranked 3rd in the initial playoff rankings, they have their hands full for the rest of the season. Next Saturday after a bye week, the Irish play currently undefeated Miami Hurricanes, then it is off to play Independent rival Navy, and then finishing the season at Stanford against Heisman leader Bryce Love and the Cardinals. This could be a special season for the Fighting Irish, and this is only the beginning.
