Chicago Bulls claim Kay Felder off of waivers from Hawks
By Eric Brown
With Kris Dunn out for maybe a month, the Chicago Bulls claimed recently waived point guard Kay Felder.
Just days away from the start of the 2017 season, the Chicago Bulls made a late roster move. It was reported by Shams Charania on Monday afternoon that the team had claimed guard Kay Felder, who recently was traded from the Cleveland Cavaliers to the Atlanta Hawks in an effort for the Cavs to get under the minimum amount of players for the regular season roster. Richard Jefferson and Felder were both traded to the Hawks, along with two 2nd round picks in that deal, the Cavs received the rights to two international players.
The Chicago Bulls need all the help they can get, as projected starter at the point guard position, Kris Dunn dislocated his left index finger during a preseason game. For the opener on Thursday, the Bulls will likely start Jerian Grant at the position. Before claiming Felder, Ryan Arcidiacono, an undrafted free agent out of Villanova was likely going to be the backup point guard for at least the first few weeks of the season.

Kay Felder may not be an all star, or even a starter at this point in his career. The Bulls are not asking him to be either of those, they are asking him to be a serviceable backup to the backup, until Kris Dunn returns from injury in the middle of November.
During the 2016-2017 season, Kay Felder spent parts of the season with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mostly spending time with their G League affiliate, the Canton Charge. In 42 games played for the champs, he averaged 4 points a contest in just over 9 minutes per game. That is an extremely small sample size, but it is possible with minutes possibly in the 15-20 range, he could up his scoring average to 10 early on with the Bulls.
In corresponding moves to get the roster to 15, the Chicago Bulls have waived center Diamond Stone, and forward Jarell Eddie. Both will likely find a home in the league for the season. Stone is an ultra raw center who has soft hands that can rebound. Eddie is a lights out shooter, who was among the top 3 point shooters in the D league last season.
This move is likely just to fill the depth for the position for the Chicago Bulls, as we previously said Kris Dunn should be back by the latest in the middle of November. With Jerian Grant starting currently, there is a possibility that Grant falters during his starting duties, and that Felder shows more promise, thus forcing the team to give Kay Felder more playing time as the season goes on.
