Five Fantasy Football options for the Chicago Bears this week
5. Deonte Thompson
Let’s be honest here: starting Thompson, even in light of his solid numbers last week, is probably crazy.
I mean, sure, the Chicago Bears could find themselves in plenty more garbage-time situations for him to take advantage of these next few weeks. And yes, he possesses very good speed and semi-decent route-running ability that should help him see targets from Glennon.
But if you think Thompson’s about to take off and start scoring like crazy for you as a receiver, I advise you to think again.
Thompson still isn’t a receiver worthy of starting in pretty much any league—standard or PPR—unless you’re absolutely dying for receiver help right now. Though the Bears don’t have any world-beating options at receiver to hold him back, I still wouldn’t trust him to score like even a decent flex guy consistently. Some of that is because of Glennon being the quarterback. Then again, he also doesn’t play anything like an elite receiver.
However, with a lot of attention on Markus Wheaton, Kendall Wright and Tarik Cohen, Thompson will get chances to run through opposing secondaries.
And, if your league counts return yards, you could get that extra value out of him that you might not get from other receivers. It all depends on how much risk you’re willing to take, especially against a tough Steeler’s defense.
