Chicago Bears Week Two MVP: Deonte Thompson
The Bears looked terrible in every aspect of the game in a 29-7 loss to the Bucs.
Coming off of an impressive close loss to the Atlanta Falcons last week, the Bears were expected to at least put up a fight in Tampa Bay on Sunday. That expectation was not met, as the Bears narrowly avoided getting shut out in a blowout loss.
Let’s be honest; nobody played great. Don’t let Mike Glennon‘s passing yards fool you- most of those yards came in garbage time. Jordan Howard was practically invisible, as was the Bears secondary to Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston. Winston tested the secondary time and time again with deep throws and ultimately was dominant.
The decision on game MVP was based solely on stats. Deonte Thompson didn’t really make a huge impact expect for the meaningless touchdown scored late in the second half. The targets and success are a good sign but are greatly overshadowed by the bad overall play of the team.

Another good sign is that Thompson stepped up in the absence of Markus Wheaton and Kevin White. While the score might not mean much, his stat line proves that Thompson can be a threat for the Bears offense.
The Bears need to put this game behind them as soon as possible as the Pittsburgh Steelers come to town next Sunday, Thompson and the rest of the Bears receiving core will need to increase their impact and production if the Bears even want a chance to compete.

As mentioned before, the production of Thompson is a good sign and will need to continue if the Bears’ quarterback struggles and injury issues continue. Like Tarik Cohen last week, the unexpected contributions of Thompson make him the Bears Week 2
MVP.
