Chicago White Sox stars finishing out the season on strong notes
In the midst of a tough Chicago White Sox season, Jose Abreu, Avisail Garcia, Tim Anderson and Yoan Moncada have been dominating to close out 2017.
On one hand, the Chicago White Sox couldn’t pull out a win last night, falling to the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on a walk-off single in the bottom of the 9th inning. The loss dropped their record to 59-88, keeping them solidly in the running for worst record in the league.
But one thing from yesterday carried over from the White Sox’s blowout 17-7 win on Thursday afternoon: the stars of that game—Tim Anderson, Yoan Moncada, Jose Abreu and Avisail Garcia—all got hits Friday night.
And with the future on the horizon, their continued strong play should excite White Sox fans.
Scorching in September
Thursday night’s offensive explosion, including 16 combined hits and 12 combined RBIs between them, was just a taste of what these four guys have done of late.
Each of these four players has posted their best OPS numbers of the season in September. Furthermore, all of them have hit for at least a .333 batting average this month.

Abreu, for lack of better words, has simply been en fuego. Arguably, that should’ve been his Players’ Weekend nickname a few weeks ago, because his rampage has been special. What else would you say about a .373 batting average and a 1.184 OPS?
Also, Garcia has kept up his All-Star campaign, hitting .400 with four home runs and 15 RBI halfway through the month. The potential stuf the White Sox hoped for when they traded for Garcia in 2013 looks like he’s here to stay.
But even more encouraging for the Sox, especially for their future, is the recent play of Anderson and Moncada.
Fighting through their unique struggles this season, both have come around strongly of late. Anderson has exploded for a .407 average, a 1.129 OPS and an absurd .556 average on batted balls in play, playing arguably the best baseball of his career to finish out 2017.
So is Moncada, who pushed his hitting streak to seven games yesterday by destroying a home run to right field.
That makes two straight games with a homer for Moncada, from both sides of the plate to boot.
Sure, the White Sox stopped playing truly meaningful games a while ago, so this is all just building momentum for later.
Still, particularly with the way the batting order of Anderson, Moncada, Abreu and Garcia performed Thursday, how can you not be dreaming about a big future for the Chicago White Sox?
What the Future Holds
Assuming Abreu continues his remarkable consistency for another 3-5 years and Garcia keeps playing like an All-Star, just think of the lineup the White Sox could have in a few years.
Put the speed of Anderson and Moncada at the top of the lineup. Stack the middle of the order with the likes of Abreu, Eloy Jimenez, Luis Robert and Jake Burger. Throw in power-hitting catching prospect Zach Collins eventually, and opposing pitchers could be losing sleep nights before they play the South Siders.
Hey, White Sox fans have to look forward to something right?
