Chicago Bears linebacker Jerrell Freeman is the latest Bears starter to be placed on injured reserve.

The Chicago Bears announced Tuesday that they have placed captain Jerrell Freeman and wide receiver Kevin White on IR. Both Freeman and White were injured Sunday against the Falcons.

Freeman had 10 tackles in the season opener. He played in 12 games last season, recording 110 tackles. After the game, Freeman self-reported a concussion and was also evaluated for a pectoral injury. Nick Kwiatkoski is expected to take Freeman’s spot in the starting lineup against the Bucs on Sunday.

Wide receiver Kevin White was also injured against the Falcons. White suffered a fractured scapula and has also been placed on IR.  If White’s season is over, he will have played in only five regular season games over his first three years in the NFL.

Freeman and White must spend at least eight weeks on IR before they’re eligible to return to game action. The Bears can choose to return only two players from IR, so Freeman and White could return this season. Bears now have three starters that are on the IR.

The Bears promoted inside linebacker Jonathan Anderson and wide receiver Tanner Gentry to the 53-man roster. Anderson joined the Bears two years ago as an undrafted free agent from TCU. He has played in 19 games with the Bears. He mostly plays on special teams.

Wide receiver Tanner Gentry signed with the Bears this year as an undrafted rookie from Wyoming. He is a fan favorite because he made big time plays in training camp. In the preseason, Gentry had four catches for 77 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown.
