Orlando Brown (Offensive Lineman), Oklahoma

Last season, Oklahoma had one of the nation’s most deadly running offenses. Led by second round pick Joe Mixon, and fourth round pick Samaje Perine, the Sooners thrived on the ground. This is part due to a powerful offensive line, led by the 6’8″ 345 pound junior Orlando Brown.

Brown was a key contributor last season, whether it was protecting Baker Mayfield, or creating space for the running backs.

With both Perine and Mixon gone, Brown’s role becomes even more important. With less-experienced running backs, Brown will need to make thier job easier by creating more space. Brown also needs to protect Mayfield from elite Ohio State defenders.

If the Oklahoma line can give Mayfield time in the pocket and give running backs space, Oklahoma should have no problem scoring on Saturday.

The son of former NFL offensive tackle Orlando Brown Sr, Brown certainly doesn’t lack experience. Brown has a challenge ahead of him without star running backs behind him, and will now need to show that he can block for any back, no matter the skill level. Brown is used to being a leader on offense, and will have as big a role as ever come Saturday night.

For the first time in a while, the Bears have a pretty solid offensive line. However, a lot can change in a year; presumably solid players may struggle, making the offensive line a possible position of need for the Bears in next year’s draft.

The 2018 draft is filled with offense line talent. Brown’s stock doesn’t entirely depend on this season, but with a great season he could cement himself as a top-10 pick. The Bears might not go in the direction of offense for next years draft, but the possibility of drafting Brown is relatively reasonable. Only time will tell, but for now, Brown is a prospect to watch for Bears fans.
