DeAngelo Yancey, WR

I really think that the Chicago Bears should take a shot on a young receiver with some upside. Tanner Gentry would have been ideal, but they screwed that up. Austin Carr is probably my next favorite choice, but I also like DeAngelo Yancey who was released by the Green Bay Packers on Saturday.

Yancey was a fifth-round pick (175th overall) in the  2017 NFL Draft. He parlayed a strong senior season at Purdue (49 receptions for 951 yards and 10 touchdowns) into a day three draft selection. Yancy is a big and physical receiver who can make an impact in the red zone. However, he also shows the raw speed to make plays deep.

The young receiver did not make enough of an impact to make the Packers’ loaded receiver corps, but he can make plays like this:

The Packers are undoubtedly hoping to sneak Yancey through waivers and put him on their practice squad, just like the Bears are doing with Gentry. However, the Bears should not let that happen. They have plenty of room for improvement at the wide receiver position and could use a young, interesting target like Yancey to add to the mix.

When it comes down to it, the Chicago Bears have the snaps to go around at wide receiver. They might as well send them towards an interesting wide receiver prospect like Yancey. He has some legitimate long-term upside.
