Chicago Bears lose to Cleveland Browns: Offensive grades
Wide Receivers/Tight Ends: B-
Hey guys, Adam Shaheen finally showed some signs of life!
“Some” being the operative word there…
Shaheen pulled in three of his four targets for 19 yards, marking his most productive day yet this preseason. He had one grab in particular that featured him dropping low and plucking a ball off the turf. Thankfully, that made up for him letting another pass fall to the turf early in the game. Who would’ve thought that of the top Bears rookies, he would be the slowest one to get going?
In other news, Tanner Gentry fans will likely get their wish of seeing him make the team. He didn’t play on offensive tonight, seeing the field only as a special teamer. Ultimately, that makes sense. Even with the loss of Cameron Meredith, Gentry won’t be seeing the field as pass catcher much this year. He’ll need to prove that he can play special teams. But either way, he seems to have earned himself a roster spot.
With Victor Cruz all but assured to get cut, Deonte Thompson and Titus Davis could be fighting for the last available receiver spot. At this point, I’d give the edge to Thompson, given his special teams prowess. But Davis has pleasantly surprised the Bears this fall, getting open frequently and making a ton of catches. If the Bears release him, I’d love to see him on the practice squad.
Mycole Pruitt had a big 54-yard catch for the Bears, too. And…that was about it as far as Bears pass-catchers go.
