Chicago Bears fall to Browns in preseason finale: Defensive grades
Here’s we saw from the Chicago Bears defensive reserves in last night’s 25-0 loss to the Cleveland Browns.
Overall, watching the Chicago Bears defense, unlike the offense, has been fun this preseason.
Despite fears about the lack of defensive investment in the draft this season, the Bears have looked infinitely better on the side of the ball than they did last season. And most of that just came from guys getting healthy again and some young players developing. Throw in some solid free agent additions in the secondary, and the starting unit could vastly outplay last year’s.
And until the second half of last night’s game, the reserves kept up the starters’ precedent of dominant play. After that, though, the secondary decided they wanted to serve as Kevin Hogan‘s hype men and let him carve them up for two touchdowns. They even let Cody Kessler throw one, now that I think about it. How nice of them.
Anyway, one way or another, let’s all just rejoice in the fact that the preseason is over. Real football is on the way. And despite some of the gross play, a few guys on defense did make a case to earn a roster spot last night.
Here’s how the defense graded out against the Browns.
