Predicting the Chicago Cubs 2017 September callups
Who will the Chicago Cubs call up when rosters expand in September?
In first place in the NL Central with about a month to go, the Chicago Cubs are in a great position to return to the postseason. The Cubs have had an extremely up-and-down season, but they appear to be putting it all together down the stretch.
This is an extremely talented roster with a ton of offensive, defensive and pitching talent. Unlike last season, the Cubs will not be the World Series favorites, but they are still undoubtedly talented enough to make a run. Before we get to the postseason, the Cubs are about to get some serious reinforcements at the big league level. Not only are guys like Addison Russell, Jon Lester and Willson Contreras due back soon, September call ups are right around the corner.
As soon as September hits, all MLB teams can bring any player who is on their 40-man roster up to the big leagues. This allows rebuilding teams to get a longer look at some of their young players and contending teams to have extra weapons on their bench.
The Cubs are not loaded with minor league talent like they were in the past, but there are still plenty of Triple-A players who can come up and provide quality depth for this team. Here are the players who I expect the Chicago Cubs to call up on September 1st.
