Adam Shaheen, Tight end

Adam Shaheen was selected in the second round by the Chicago Bears. He played college football for Ashland University. Yes, that is a college.

After looking impressive in training camp, Shaheen has not made a big impact during the preseason action. He has caught three passes for 18 yards, so far. A big and talented target, Shaheen has a lot of upside, but his lack of production is making fans restless.

The good news is that he is not going to be counted on to be the number one tight end this season. The Chicago Bears have a very deep tight end group that includes Zach Miller, Dion Sims, Daniel Brown and Ben Braunecker. Personally, I believe that Braunecker is the odd man out and will likely wind up on the practice squad.

This will allow Shaheen to develop on his own time, while not facing the pressure to put up 1,000 yards in his first season. It is a big adjustment coming from a division two college to the bright lights of historic Soldier Field.

If Shaheen is able to put a nice game together statistically, then that would just be icing on the cake. The key, right now, is to continue to work on his blocking and the rest will come.
