Five Chicago Bears players to watch against the Cleveland Browns
Victor Cruz, Wide Receiver
When the Chicago Bears signed Victor Cruz in late May, I fully expected him to make the roster. Considering they gave him $2 million in base salary, with an additional $2 million in incentives, I figured that the Chicago Bears still thought highly of the type of player he is. However, since catching a touchdown from Mitchell Trubisky in the first preseason game, it has all gone downhill from there. He has made little to no impact in any of the games he has played in.
After the Cameron Meredith injury, the Chicago Bears are going to need wide receivers to step up, especially since it is unknown when Markus Wheaton will return from surgery on his finger in time for the start of the season.
Cruz is a veteran player who is apparently a great leader on and off the field. With that being the case, you would imagine that he would step up and do his best to help out the quarterbacks. However, that did not happen when the Chicago Bears played the Tennessee Titans on Sunday.
You can clearly see the effort that Mitchell Trubisky used to extend the play and find an open receiver. However, Cruz is not able to hang onto the football. He needs to catch everything thrown his way if he wants to make this team.
His snap count from the game is very telling. He is going to need to impress general manager Ryan Pace on Thursday if he hopes to make this squad.
