Five major takeaways from the Chicago Bears victory against the Tennessee Titans
The Chicago Bears have a top 10 defense
I’ll just go ahead and say it. I have not seen the Chicago Bears defense look this talented and cohesive since 2012. That is FIVE years that have passed. Vic Fangio has these guys flying around the field making plays.
The Tennessee Titans did not score until the fourth quarter. It took the Chicago Bears putting their second and third string players in order for Tennessee to put up points. That is mind-boggling, considering how bad the Chicago Bears defense has been for the last five years.
Akiem Hicks looks like a pro-bowler and Quintin Demps made great plays in the secondary. It was tough for the Titans to find any room on the ground. DeMarco Murray and Derrick Henry each rushed for 2.7 yards a carry. That defensive line and linebacking core, led by Jerrell Freeman, absolutely suffocated the Tennessee Titans and filled up all of the running lanes.
Akiem Hicks absolutely destroyed Jack Conklin, the pro bowl right tackle for the Tennessee Titans. Hicks’ combination of power and quickness is incredibly impressive. He does a fantastic job of making plays in the backfield and can also eat up blocks to create plays for his teammates.
This was an overall impressive performance by the Chicago Bears defense. One that they can build on as they head into the regular season.
