The Chicago Bears defense showed off its potential for dominance in their Preseason Week 2 victory over the Arizona Cardinals.

With all the focus on the Chicago Bears offense, the Bears defense continues to establish itself as a potentially dominant unit.

For the second week in a row, the first-team defense completely destroyed an opposing offense, this time bottling up Marcus Mariota and the Tennessee Titans. And at this point, the optimism that the Bears could have a top-ten defense looks justified.

The run defense continues to own the line of scrimmage, allowing just 55 yards rushing from non-quarterbacks. Not bad for a unit that ranked 26th last year with more than 121 rushing yards surrendered per game.

And partly of the front seven’s dominance, the Bears’ rather average secondary was spared any significant tests. And yet, though they had a few bad plays, they largely held up their end of the bargain again.

Like the offense, the Bears didn’t completely escape the injury bug today. Notably, Prince Amukamara left in the first quarter with an ankle injury, continuing his injury issues. However, in his place, Kyle Fuller kept up his revitalized play, all but assuring himself a spot on the team. And while Leonard Floyd also bowed out early with an injury, it wasn’t believed to be serious.

As long as they can keep their key players healthy, the Bears could be building something special on defense.

Let’s take a look at how each position group did, starting up front as always.
