Chicago Bears rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky displays why Chicago drafted him second overall in a preseason game against Tennessee Sunday afternoon. Watch Trubisky throw an impressive 45-yard touchdown strike to fellow rookie Tanner Gentry.

During the Chicago Bears preseason week three matchup against the Tennessee Titans, rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky took over the second half. After Mike Glennon put up his own relatively impressive numbers, Trubisky came in and gave Chicago fans a little taste of the future.

With a little under 11 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Trubisky threw an extremely impressive 45-yard dime to rookie wide receiver Tanner Gentry.

Trubisky was given perfect protection from his line to make the pass to Gentry. With no one near him, Trubisky was able to get the pass out in time to hit Gentry in stride. Gentry was able to get a step up on Tennessee cornerback Jeremy Boykins. Gentry got enough separation from Boykins for Trubisky to place the ball only where Gentry could grab it.

Get excited Bears fans. The Trubisky-Gentry connection is definitely one to get familiar with. Since both Trubisky and Gentry have worked with the second team during training camp, the two have developed quite the chemistry thus far. It’s refreshing to see the chemistry translate from training camp to their game performances.

Gentry’ future

Fortunately, this connection means good new for Tanner Gentry. The undrafted free agent rookie is still battling for a roster spot and this catch could be huge for him. Also, due to the injury suffered by Cameron Meredith this afternoon, Gentry’ odds of making the roster have significantly increased.

Accordingly, The kid has been raising many eyebrows in training camp and now in the preseason too. For chemistry sake going forward, the Bears must keep Gentry around whether he remains on the roster or stays with the practice squad.

Although it appears as if Mike Glennon will still be the Bears starting quarterback come week one, plays like these make it difficult to not get to see Trubisky play soon.
