3. Jarvis Landry, Miami Dolphins

As soon as Meredith went down with an injury, I saw many Bears’ fans on Twitter point to this report from Lombardi:

Jarvis Landry does a huge majority of his work out of the slot. He is undoubtedly one of the best slot receivers in the NFL and an elite chain mover. That being said, he is not really an ideal replacement for Meredith.

More from Chicago Bears

Meredith is a big and athletic outside receiver. Landry uses quickness and elite route running ability to make plays in the middle of the field. He is primarily a short-yardage receiver. While Landry is a fantastic player, he is not really an ideal fit for the Bears.

Kendall Wright has looked great out of the slot for the Bears in the preseason and Victor Cruz provides quality depth behind him. Landry is much better than both of those players, but adding him certainly would not fill the void that Meredith left on the outside.

The idea of adding a guy like Landry is great, but I am not sure it’s the best move for the Bears to make. Through three NFL seasons, Landry has averaged 96 receptions for 1,017 yards and four touchdowns per year. He has also shown great durability, playing in all 48 of the Dolphins’ games throughout his career, despite taking a pounding in the slot.

Landry is great and would undoubtedly be a fantastic addition to the Bears’ offense. However, he would not come cheap. I imagine that the Dolphins will be asking for at least a second-round pick in any trade involving Landry. Adding him would be fun, but the Chicago Bears are not in a position to be trading that kind of draft capital.
