Five Chicago Bears players to watch against the Tennessee Titans
Roy Robertson-Harris, Defensive End
Last season, Roy Robertson-Harris was an outside linebacker who spent the 2016 NFL season on the reserve/non-illness list. So, he was essentially redshirted on the season, after being an undrafted free agent out of UTEP.
He has added more weight to his frame, which suits him well on his transition from outside linebacker to defensive end.
I always thought that he had potential because he is very athletic. However, it was still unknown how his game would translate with to the five-tech defensive end position. Well, so far, so good.
Robertson-Harris (number 74) looked absolutely dominant in the Arizona Cardinals game. He wrecked drives for the Cardinals, almost single-handedly.
On this play, Robertson-Harris is able to take on both the left guard and the left tackle. He bends the corner extremely well and finishes with a sack of Drew Stanton. This was the second of back-to-back sacks for Roy Robertson-Harris, who killed that drive for the Arizona Cardinals.
At first, you may think that the Cardinals’ left guard took Robertson-Harris out of the play, but he is able to disengage the guard and loop around and apply pressure on the quarterback. For a three man rush, this is great pressure applied by Robertson-Harris, who was able to get his hand on the throwing arm of Drew Stanton. His strong play forced a punt on the next play.
You may think that Roy Robertson-Harris is a one trick pony. That’s not true. While he is a good pass rusher because of his speed, he is able to stop the run, also. The weight he added in the offseason helped on the play above. He is able to disengage the left guard on this zone run play. He’s able to show the burst and chase the Arizona Cardinals’ running back down for no gain.
The Tennessee Titans look to run the ball a lot this season. Since this is the dress rehearsal game, the Titans may look to do a lot of that when they face the Chicago Bears this Sunday. Robertson-Harris should play a big part in whether or not the Titans are successful in doing that. If Robertson-Harris plays as well as he did against the Arizona Cardinals, then it is fair to expect that he will get into the rotation when the first week of the regular season rolls around.
