Chicago Bears will reportedly start Mitch Trubisky in third preseason game
According to a recent report, the Chicago Bears are expected to start rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky in their third preseason game on Sunday.
Well, this is certainly interesting. The Chicago Bears have made it know all offseason that Mike Glennon is their starting quarterback for the 2017 season. Mitch Trubisky is clearly the quarterback of the future, but Glennon is all but certain to get his chance to lead the team this season. However, according to Sirius XM radio host Ross Tucker, the Bears are expected to start Trubisky in their third preseason game on Sunday.
Anybody who has watched these two quarterbacks through the first two preseason games knows that Trubisky is the more talented player. Simply put, Glennon is a backup caliber NFL quarterback and while Trubisky will need some time to grow, he has a high-level skill set.
The third preseason game is commonly looked at as the dress rehearsal for the regular season. This is the game where the first-team units on both sides of the ball see the most playing time. The Bears are probably just looking at this as an opportunity to see what Trubisky can do with his best teammates and against an actual NFL defense. However, what if he comes out and dominates?
If Trubisky performs well in this dress rehearsal, I simply do not see how they can go back to Glennon. He was terrible in the first preseason game against the Denver Broncos and honestly, wasn’t much more impressive last week against the Arizona Cardinals. Trubisky is clearly the more talented player and if he proves ready, it would be hard to argue against starting him.

Sunday’s third preseason game against the Tennessee Titans was already going to be interesting. Now, it could have massive importance as the single-most important player on the Chicago Bears is expected to get an opportunity to start. Can Trubisky finally make this a quarterback competition? It sure will be interesting to find out.
Update
Ross Tucker may not have a clue what he is talking about here.
The GOAT, Adam Schefter, reports that Glennon will instead get the start with Mitch Trubisky starting the second half. I expect Trubisky’s time in the second half will involve playing with the first team offense. Schefter’s report certainly seems to line up better with what John Fox told the media on Wednesday. I guess we will find out soon enough.
