Chicago Bears starting quarterback Mike Glennon was better in Week 2 of the NFL preseason, but he still has obvious issues.

Mike Glennon started at quarterback for the Chicago Bears again on Saturday night, and this time he played the entire first half. If you just looked at his numbers, you would say that Glennon had a pretty good game. Glennon completed 13-of-18 passes for 89 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

His passer rating of 78.2 was certainly a stark improvement over his 0.0 passer rating last week. While Glennon was undoubtedly better, he was far from perfect under center. In fact, I personally he needs to be much better if the Bears expect to win any games with him under center.

The Chicago Bears were extremely careful with Glennon, constantly giving him short and easy throws to make. To his credit, Glennon completed a nice percentage of his passes, but they were mostly really easy throws that would have been difficult to mess up. Glennon did not look like a high-level starting NFL quarterback on Saturday night.

Glennon still showed shaky accuracy when he was not dumping the ball off and is still a statue in the pocket. We know he has a big arm, but Glennon has not shown it at all through two preseason games.

I also noticed that Glennon seemed to struggle with progressing through his reads. Far too often, Glennon simply dropped back, locked into one target and threw him the ball. That simply will not work in the NFL. A perfect example of this came on his interception:

Glennon locked on to Kendall Wright and forced him the ball. With his long release, Tyrann Mathieu had plenty of time to make a read and make a play on the ball. This was a costly red zone interception that took points off of the board and it should have been avoided. Plus, it was not the only time where Glennon locked on to one receiver. It was just the only time the Cardinals really made him pay for it.

He did lead a strong touchdown drive late in the first half that was capped off by a seven-yard touchdown to Wright. However, even on that drive, Glennon simply made easy reads and short dump off throws. He did not show any ability to push the ball down the field on Saturday night.

Glennon was alright, but he was not overly impressive. Now, we will see what Mitch Trubisky can do.
