Chicago Bears vs. Arizona Cardinals: Five players to watch
Mike Glennon, Quarterback
To put it nicely, it was not a good night for Mike Glennon against the Broncos. He finished the night with a 0.0 passer rating. He completed two of eight passes for 20 yards and an interception, which was returned for a touchdown.
Glennon is aware that he needs to play better to stave off Mitchell Trubisky. While he knows that Tribusky is the future of the franchise, he has to know that he is, also, auditioning for his next team. He needs to show that he can be more than just a backup NFL quarterback and that he can be an adequate starter.
Against the Broncos, he threw a pass into triple coverage, which led to the pick-six. He also underthrew a deep pass to Cameron Meredith on the sideline. Granted, it’s not like the other players in the first-team offense helped him out. Meredith dropped Glennon’s first pass. Also, they couldn’t establish the ground game, which is crucial for a run-first team like the Chicago Bears.
If Glennon can have a positive showing, he will more than likely start the first game of the season. If he plays like he did against the Broncos, he will have opened the door for a quarterback competition that he will most likely not win.
