Chicago Bulls and Dwyane Wade expected to agree to buyout soon
The Chicago Bulls and superstar Dwyane Wade are reportedly about to part ways.
According to Nick Friedell of ESPN, the Chicago Bulls and Dwyane Wade will agree on a buyout soon. In an interesting post talking about the futile Bulls and their rebuild, Friedell drops this little note that predicts an end of the Bulls’ relationship with Wade in the not too distant future.
"Dwyane Wade isn’t long for the organization’s future and is expected to reach a buyout agreement at some point in the next few months."
Wade is a big-time NBA superstar and one of the best players of his era. However, he will be 35 years old in January and is simply not the same player that he once was. Wade undoubtedly still has some value on the court, but he does not bring much to a team that has both eyes on the future. Plus, he is still owed more than $23 million for the upcoming season. If the Bulls can get out of any of that money, they should look at this as a win.
Now, it is important to note that Friedell says the buyout is expected to happen in the next few months. While it is probably most likely that the Bulls cut ties with Wade before the season, that is far from a guarantee. The season starts almost exactly two months from now. It is impossible to say for sure, but I bet if Friedell was sure it would happen before the season, he would have worded it that way.
I am surprised that a trade isn’t even looked at as a possibility here. I mean, I get it, Wade is far from the player that he used to be. But he could still be a valuable asset for a team looking to compete. If the Bulls were willing to take on the right salaries, there are trades that would make sense.

However, based on this report, I am probably overvaluing him as a player right now. Regardless if it is via trade or a buyout, moving on from Wade is the best thing for the Chicago Bulls at the moment. Embrace the tank, the Bulls rebuild is here.
