Most important Chicago Bulls players to watch next season
5. Antonio Blakeney
It is kind of sad that an undrafted rookie free agent is among the five most interesting players on a rebuilding team, but here we are. After going undrafted, the Bulls gave Antonio Blakeney an opportunity to prove himself on their Summer League roster.
In four Las Vegas Summer League games, Blakeney scored 16.8 points, while shooting 43.8% from the field. He also brought in five rebounds per game.
Blakeney is an interesting guard prospect who has a lot of long-term upside. He is a strict two-guard prospect who does not have ideal size for the position, at 6-foot-4. However, Blakeney has the length and athleticism to more than make up for it.
According to DraftExpress, Blakeney has a 6-foot-7.5-inch wingspan and a ridiculous 45-inch max vertical leap. Blakeney can make plays off of the dribble, using his athleticism well around the rim. He also has a solid outside shot that will allow him to create space at the next level.
While his size would make him an ideal fit as a point guard, Blakeney simply does not have the playmaking skills for the position. He is a scorer, not a distributor. However, he is a guy who can certainly fill up the stat sheet.
I see Blakeney as a potentially valuable scorer off of the bench for many years. He does not have enough of an overall game to be a full-time starter, but Blakeney’s offensive upside is impressive. We could be looking at the future sixth-man of the Chicago Bulls.
