Chicago Bears training camp 2017: Five players who could turn heads in Bourbonnais
With training camp set to open up July 26th, here are a few Chicago Bears that could turn heads in Bourbonnais and in pre-season.
We’ve already talked about which Chicago Bears need to have a big training camp to solidify their status with the team and those that could be in danger of losing their jobs. How about something a little more optimistic?
With the franchise building toward the future, the Bears will be searching for the players who will contribute to their cause when they’re contenders again. Several free agents on one-year deals will show the Bears what they’ve got, hoping to earn a job here, or elsewhere, next year. And both drafted and undrafted rookies will get significant run as Chicago evaluates what its future holds.
Here are the players that could answer the bell for the Bears during training camp and their regular season slate.
Honorable Mention:
Amukamara isn’t going to wow you athletically or with preternatural instincts. As such, he didn’t generate a ton of excitement when he signed with the Bears.
But the Bears don’t need special talents at corner. At this point, they just need a guy who can do a solid job and keep the ball in front of him. And Amukamara can absolutely do that. Plus, he identifies his strength as playing man coverage. You know Vic Fangio has to like that.
Ultimately, his health will determine what he can give the Bears. But when he plays, he can be a better-than-average corner with a good feel for the game and a developing sense of physicality. And for those concerned about him only having seven career interceptions? Just watch the film, he says.
By the time training camp is over, I can see Chicago Bears fans being much happier about this signing.
