5. Ka’Deem Carey

To his credit, Carey has managed to stick around through some tumultuous times with the Chicago Bears since being taken in the fourth round of the 2014 draft. And through it all, he’s run hard and contributed whenever given the opportunity.

But he may not be able to beat the odds this time around.

The Skinny

While the running back room starts with Jordan Howard, several other Ryan Pace acquisitions could stand in the way of Carey making the final cut.

This year, the Bears drafted lightning-quick dynamo Tarik Cohen in the fourth-round, expecting to use him in a Darren Sproles-like role.

Then, they signed Benny Cunningham to further solidify special teams and serve as an occasional change-of-pace back.

Finally, though he had a disappointing 2016 season, the Bears likely won’t give up on Jeremy Langford just yet. In fact, despite his poor showing, he likely opens this season as the favorite to back up Howard.

With Cohen basically a cinch to make the roster, Carey will have to battle with Langford and Cunningham for the fourth (and likely final) running back spot. Unfortunately for him, they offer far more pass-catching potential than he does, having recorded just 13 career receptions. While he runs aggressively, he doesn’t anything else particularly unique, and the Bears already have a hammer in Howard.

With all respect to Carey, this numbers game will be pretty hard him to win.
