Chicago White Sox lineup: Yoan Moncada batting sixth, playing second base
Top prospect Yoan Moncada will make his Chicago White Sox debut on Wednesday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moncada is in the White Sox lineup, batting sixth and playing second base.
Yoan Moncada day is here! After making a seven-player swap with the New York Yankees on Wednesday night, the Chicago White Sox announced that top prospect Yoan Moncada would be called to the big leagues. Sure enough, Moncada is on the roster and in the lineup for the White Sox on Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Trying to keep as much pressure off as possible, the White Sox have Moncada playing his familiar second base and hitting sixth. Carlos Rodon will take the mound for the White Sox and he will be opposed by Dodgers’ right-hander Kenta Maeda. Maeda has not been terrible this season, but his 4.38 ERA in 16 starts is nothing to be afraid of. He is not a bad guy for Moncada to get his White Sox debut against.
An incredibly bright future
Moncada is not only considered the best prospect in a loaded White Sox system, he is ranked as the best prospect in the game by MLB.com. Make no mistake about it, Moncada is an extremely talented player who is going to provide a major spark to the White Sox lineup.
The 22-year-old Moncada was acquired as the headliner of the Chris Sale trade with the Boston Red Sox over the offseason. The White Sox started him at Triple-A, where he has mashed all season long. Through 80 games at Triple-A Charlotte, Moncada hit an impressive .282/.377/.447 with a 130 wRC+, according to FanGraphs.
A sweet-swinging switch hitter, Moncada undoubtedly has big time upside in the big leagues. He will immediately become the most important Chicago White Sox player to watch and could quickly become one of the most interesting players in the entire game.
