Chicago Bears, rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky officially agree to contract
The Chicago Bears have gotten Mitch Trubisky to sign on the dotted line, meaning he will be able to participate in training camp.
I don’t know about you, but I was getting nervous. The Chicago Bears invested heavily in rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky this offseason. While Trubisky is not expected to see the field much in 2017, him being a training camp holdout would not have been a great start.
Bears training camp is only a week away, and as of this morning, Trubisky still hadn’t signed his rookie contract with the team. Luckily, this is not going to be an issue as he has finally done so.
Contract Details
According to Spotrac, the Bears have signed Trubisky to a “fully guaranteed $29M contract, with a projected signing bonus of $19.2M.” The rookie contract will go for four seasons and includes a fifth-year team option for the Chicago Bears.
Now that he is officially signed, Trubisky becomes the single most important player on the Bears roster. They are not expected to compete in 2017, so even if he is not on the field, Trubisky’s development will undoubtedly be one of the top stories to watch over the course of the season.
An extremely accurate passer who shows high football IQ and great intangibles, Trubisky undoubtedly has the ability to play quarterback at a high level in the NFL. Add in his strong arm, great leadership skills and mobility, and it is easy to see why Ryan Pace and company pinpointed Trubisky as the guy to lead their franchise into the future.
Quarterback is far and away the most important position on the football field. Without a good one, you simply cannot compete in today’s NFL. If Trubisky busts, it will set the Bears franchise back many years. However, if it all comes together for him, they could quickly become a team to watch in the NFC.
