Hours after the Chicago Cubs traded for Jose Quintana, there are mixed emotions from Cubs fans. Fans of the Cubs need to put their trust in the front office once again.

Here we go again, the Chicago Cubs make a trade and there are mixed emotions all around. Some love the move and others do not. It is a typical reaction for any trade, but Theo Epstein, Jed Hoyer and the Cubs front office were the ones who made the transactions that led the Chicago Cubs to their first World Series championship in 108 years.

He and rest of the front office deserve some leeway when it comes to making trades. Below are some, just some, of the transactions Epstein and his team made to help win a World Series

Important transactions

Sometimes we need a reminder about what Epstein has helped build. Look at that list and think about how each of these transactions affected the last couple seasons the Cubs have had. Many of these trades the Cubs’ front office fleeced the team they traded with.

That is why this trade is a good move the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs had a glaring need in starting pitching, and the trade for Jose Quintana helps fill that need.

A known commodity

Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease are wonderful prospects, but I am a firm believer in trading for something unknown for something known. Quintana has consistently pitched well in the big leagues for six years now. He is a cost controlled starter the Cubs have coveted. Also, this move allows the Cubs to be players in free agency this coming offseason.

The two headline names in the trade were Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease. Two young players playing in the low minor leagues at this point. While they are talented players, Jimenez and Cease are years away from helping the Chicago Cubs.

There is no guarantee Jimenez lives up to the ridiculous hype that surrounds him. There is no guarantee Dylan Cease stays healthy, considering he has fought with injuries throughout his professional career thus far. Pitching can be very volatile.

Next: Why the Jose Quintana trade was the right move for the Cubs

Overall, this helps move helps both the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox. This trade helps the Cubs in the short term. Meanwhile, the Sox continue to build their impressive farm system. Cubs fans need to trust in the front office because they have proved over and over again that they know what they are doing.
