Perhaps one of the biggest shockers of the entire 2017 baseball season the Chicago White Sox have traded Jose Quintana to cross-town rival Chicago Cubs.

Well, the day has finally come. After countless rumors since the offseason, the Chicago White Sox have traded star pitcher Jose Quintana. The shocking part it wasn’t to Boston, or Houston or any other team that had been rumored to get him. The Chicago Cubs came out of nowhere and got themselves a stud of a pitcher.  Although, the price was not cheap for the North Siders.

So what does this trade mean for the White Sox moving forward? First, let’s look at the details. Here is the trade:

Fantastic return for Sox

The White Sox absolutely got a huge amount of talent from the Cubs on this trade. Eloy Jimenez is a top 10 prospect in all of baseball (ranked number five by Baseball America in their recent update) and just adds to the depth of talent the White Sox have in their farm system. Jimenez is going to be the focal point of this trade, just like Yoan Moncada was the focal point of the Chris Sale trade during the winter meetings.

But, the White Sox have also acquired the Cubs top pitching prospect Dylan Cease, which also adds to the amazing depth of pitching prospects the White Sox have.

Here’s how the White Sox top prospects break down now after the trade:

That farm system is absolutely loaded with impact talent.

Also, by adding Cease to the mix, the Chicago White Sox now have a plethora of arms in the minors that can hit 100MPH on the radar gun. Kopech, Burdi, Cease, Lopez just to name a few.

Obviously, it’s hard to see Quintana go. Especially to a cross-town rival but I personally feel that both Rick Hahn and Theo Epstein did an amazing job for their respective teams. I am partial to the White Sox so it’s easy for me to say that by the looks of the trade the Sox got the better end of the deal. However, prospects are exactly that, a prospect. They haven’t proved anything yet until they reach the big leagues and produce.

Next: Quintana trade a major win for both Cubs and White Sox

Quintana is a stud and is producing at the big league level. So that’s why in my opinion it’s a win, win for both Chicago teams today.

What a day to be a White Sox and a Cubs fan! Good job Rick Hahn and keep up the work, still some moves to be made before the deadline!
