Chicago White Sox news: How Jose Quintana trade makes sense
The Chicago White Sox traded Jose Quintana to the Chicago Cubs for some of their top minor league prospects. This deal may be better than the other deals they made in the offseason and shortens their rebuild plan.
Let the deals begin! As teams prepare to start the second half of the season, the contenders start to explore serious trade dealings. Well, even though the non-waiver trade deadline is still 18 days away, the Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs started dealing. This time with each other.
In a deal many thought wouldn’t happen, the White Sox traded pitcher Jose Quintana to the Cubs for outfielder Eloy Jimenez, pitcher Dylan Cease, first baseman Matt Rose, and infielder Bryan Flete.
Sox general manager Rick Hahn released a statement and spoke about the players the Sox received:
More from Da Windy City
- Juan Soto appears headed to the Yankees which is not a big blow Chicago Cubs offseason
- 3 takeaways from Chicago Blackhawks shootout loss to Nashville
- Chicago Cubs in the middle of chaos that is Shohei Ohtani’s free agency
- The Chicago Cubs are on a roller coaster of emotions chasing Shohei Ohtani
- Chicago Bears quietly compiling list of head coaching candidates
"All four players add talent and depth to our organization, which has been one of our very public goals over the past nine months, and their ages and development arc match nicely with some of the other young talent we have been fortunate to add in recent trades, the draft and international signings"
This is a win-win deal for both teams. The Cubs desperately needed starting pitching, and they got a good one in Quintana. The White Sox, on the other hand, needed prospects to advance their rebuild, and they sure got it with this deal.
The White Sox took the Cubs’ blueprint on rebuilding the team and are flying with it. Once they decided to go for the full-fledged rebuild, they’ve done an excellent job of transforming their farm system. Since the end of last season, they traded Chris Sale and Adam Eaton. In return, they received players like Michael Kopech, Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito, and Reynaldo Lopez. Now they add Jimenez, the number 5 prospect by Baseball America. Also, in Cease the Sox get a hard-throwing 21-year-old.
The Sox reinforced their minor leagues and this deal adds more to it.
No, the Sox aren’t playing for this season or even next season. However, like the Cubs of about four seasons ago, they have their eyes on the near future. Jimenez and Moncada can make a very impressive combination in the lineup for the Sox. The case is the same with Kopech and Cease. In a few years, we could have a real battle between these two teams not only for city supremacy but also for baseball supremacy.

When we talk about the Chicago White Sox revival in the future, this trade could be one of the major reasons for it. In fact, this may be the deal that shortens the rebuilding process dramatically.
