Strong Safety: Quintin Demps

Quintin Demps has always been a talented NFL safety. He was also a strong in-the-box player who could make an impact against the run and defend in man-to-man coverage. However, last season with the Houston Texans, Demps took his game to the next level.

Demps was never a great coverage player in the past, especially in the deep part of the field. He was always flying around the field making plays, but a strong coverage safety he was not.

That being said, last season, Demps drastically improved in coverage. The Texans used him on the back-end a lot and he rewarded them with strong and consistent play. Demps came away with six interceptions last season and became a major part of the Texans defense, primarily as a deep safety.

Demps is all but guaranteed to start for the Chicago Bears, but I am interested to see how they use him. Fangio will use two deep safeties at times, but he typically likes to play one more up towards the line of scrimmage. I have listed Demps as the Bears’ starting strong safety, and I expect to see him play in-the-box a lot, but he will see plenty of time on the back-end as well.

A talented veteran who can make a huge defensive impact and show the young kids the ropes, Demps was a fantastic addition by Ryan Pace and company this offseason.
