Cornerback: Prince Amukamara

I do not know if I would call him their true number one cornerback, but Prince Amukamara is probably the most likely player to start at outside cornerback for the Bears to begin the season.

More from Chicago Bears

The Bears signed Amukamara to a one-year, $7 million contract this offseason. He is a former first round pick (19th overall by the New York Giants in 2011) who spent last season with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Amukamara has always been an extremely talented cornerback who shows fantastic natural coverage skills. He sticks to the receiver well and rarely gets beat deep. He shows strong ball skills and can compete at the line of scrimmage.

Amukamara is not a perfect cornerback, as he lacks elite speed and athleticism. He has also struggled with a lot of nagging injuries throughout his career. But he is undoubtedly an improvement over what they had last season.

He is probably best suited as a number two cornerback who does not have to face the elite NFL wide receivers. That being said, he has the ability to compete against high-level players on the outside. A tough player who can jam well at the line of scrimmage, Amukamara is a strong fit for Fangio’s defense who will undoubtedly make an impact for the 2017 Chicago Bears.
