The Chicago White Sox will retire Mark Buehrle‘s jersey on Saturday, June 24th before their game against Oakland.

Perhaps the most popular player in Chicago White Sox history, Mark Buehrle will have his jersey retired by the organization that he helped win a World Series for in 2005. Buehrle played a key role in the White Sox bringing home that World Series that year and will forever be etched in White Sox lore.

Buehrle pitched for the White Sox from 2000-2011 and became a fan favorite right away. As a starting pitcher, he was as durable and reliable as you could ask for. The five-time All- Star finished his career with 214 wins and a career 3.81 ERA.

Although he didn’t finish his career in a White Sox uniform he will forever go down as one of the best to dawn the Sox logo.

Buehrle has had many career highlight moments. Including: throwing a no-hitter against Texas in 2007 and throwing the 18th perfect game in major league history against the Tampa Bay Rays in 2009.

What White Sox fan could forget the amazing catch by Dwayne Wise that secured the perfect game in the 9th inning robbing a home run.

There is so much you could say about Buehrle on and off the field, and this is why he deserves more than ever to be etched in White Sox history by having his number retired.

When it comes to the 2005 team that won the World Series, Buehrle was a huge reason why. Buehrle would become the first pitcher in major league history to start and save consecutive games in the World Series. He would draw a no-decision in game two and come in and nail down the save for the Sox in game three of the World Series.

I am looking forward to seeing the number 56 hanging with all the other greats in White Sox history. I grew up watching Buehrle pitch, heck I even named my black lab after him!

All Chicago White Sox fans should be watching on Saturday and just enjoying the moment as an all time south side great gets the recognition he deserves.
