A blessing in disguise for the Chicago Bulls may be head coach Fred Hoiberg leaving to become the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

An interesting rumor popped up on Wednesday night involving Chicago Bulls head coach Fred Hoiberg.

A national report stated that Hoiberg was a real candidate to become the next head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes college basketball program. Hoiberg, who developed a name for himself while being the head coach of the Iowa State college basketball program, has been the Bulls head coach for the past two seasons.

Hoiberg was put in a losing situation when he became the head coach of the Bulls two years ago. At the time, the Bulls’ front office had successfully forced out Tom Thibodeau despite his close ties with the players in the locker room. Hoiberg, who is better basketball coach than he gets credit for, was not in a position to lead a locker room with ties to their previous head coach and emerging superstar in Jimmy Butler.

Even in his second season as head coach of the Bulls, it appeared that Hoiberg had issues controlling the locker room. Throughout the season, there was a perceived rift between with Butler and Dwyane Wade on one side and then Hoiberg on the other.

Going forward, the best thing for the Bulls would be Hoiberg being named the new head coach of the Ohio State college basketball program. Given the close ties between Hoiberg and Bulls’ general manager Gar Forman, the team never will never consider firing the head coach even though a change is needed.

If Hoiberg were to leave for Ohio State, the Bulls’ front office would be forced to make a much-needed change. Only then would the Bulls’ front office potentially have the capability of putting the organization back on the right track.
