Chicago White Sox possible MLB draft target: Pitcher Alex Faedo
By Ian Blum
As the MLB First-Year Player draft approaches many wonder who the Chicago White Sox will pick. This the first of multiple quick player breakdowns to see what the White Sox could pick.
Ah yes, the Florida Gators pitching staff. You cannot talk College Baseball or the MLB Draft without them being in the conversation. The Chicago White Sox picked up a former Gator in Dane Dunning from the Washington Nationals organization. Soon they will have yet another opportunity is coming to add a Florida arm to the farm system.
Alex Faedo is consistently appearing in Mock Drafts everywhere. He dominated in his Sophomore season with a 13-3 record and 104.2 innings pitched. He went seven full innings vs Harvard and dominated their lineup in what was his best game from 2016.
It was off season knee surgery that may have caused him to slide on draft boards. The arthroscopic surgery on booth his knees kept him out of fall ball. While this could potentially hurt his stock in the draft nobody can argue with his play in 2017. He has posted a 7-1 record and 2.33 ERA so far this season. His 8.1 innings pitched with no runs allowed vs South Carolina has been his best work so far.
Alex went to Alsono High school in Tampa, Florida. While there he was named most valuable pitcher on the team in 2013 and 2014. He was awarded All State Honors and also won numerous other awards for baseball in Florida. In 2014 he was selected in the First Year Player Draft in the 6th round by the Detroit Tigers.
However, Alex decided to play for coach Kevin O’Sullivan and the Florida Gators. In Alex’s time as a Gator so far, they have had three NCAA tournament appearances (2014, 2015 and 2016), two College World Series appearances (2015 and 2016) and two regional titles (2015 and 2016).
