After Sunday’s win against the San Diego Padres the Chicago White Sox optioned infielder Cody Asche to Charlotte. Reynaldo Lopez should take his place.

The Chicago White Sox have a big decision coming up after sending down Cody Asche. Who will be the next player to come up from Charlotte? It sounds like it’s going to be a pitcher. With the stellar play by starting pitcher Reynaldo Lopez, my money is on him coming up.

Lopez had a great spring training and many thought he did enough to make the team. However, the White Sox had other plans and wanted Lopez to get some more experience under his belt. Lopez came over to the White Sox from the Nationals in the Adam Eaton trade and is currently 4-1 with a 3.55 ERA.

For me, Lopez is one of the most interesting prospects the White Sox have. He has a lot of potential and could become an ace. Everyone likes to talk about Yoan Moncada and Michael Kopech, but I believe that Lopez has the potential of being the best player to come from last year’s winter meeting trades.

It’s not clear-cut what the White Sox will do yet so keeping Lopez in Charlotte for a bit longer is a strong possibility. Especially with other pitchers like Carson Fulmer and Zach Burdi looking great thus far.

As for Lopez, he already has major league experience, pitching for the Washington Nationals. Lopez is more than ready to step up to the big leagues and show what he can do. I’m all for letting players develop in the minors and not rushing them up, but I personally think it’s time for Lopez to join the White Sox.

Next: Danny Travathan may not be ready for camp

The White Sox will announce on Monday who will, be coming up to the majors. Look forward to more information as it comes out.
