The Chicago Bears opened rookie minicamp on Friday with all eyes on quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

As soon as the Chicago Bears took Mitch Trubisky with the second overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, he became the most important player on their roster. With that being the case, it is not a surprise that there was so much attention on Trubisky, even just at rookie minicamp practice.

The Bears opened their rookie minicamp on Friday with Trubisky being the star of the show. He went through drills and looked great. The Bears coaches are impressed with what Trubisky has been able to handle through the early going.

"“(Trubisky’s) very accurate, very smart,” head coach John Fox told the media according to the team’s official website. “He’s got good football character as far as transferring things from the meeting room to the field, and we saw that today.”“He’s handling everything well,” said offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains. “We’ve kind of tweaked the schedule a little bit to where we’re having two 7-on-7s, so he’s getting more reps that way. We gave him a big install and he handled it. We wanted him to feel stressed a little bit and understand how different the game is and to this point right now he’s responded well.”“He’s an extremely humble kid,” Loggains continued. “He’s a hard worker and you feel his passion for football and being around his teammates.”"

It has only been one practice but the early feedback on Trubisky is incredibly encouraging. He is an incredibly gifted quarterback. We saw that on the field last season at North Carolina. His mobility, accuracy and arm strength are all legit and will carry him at the next level.

However, with little college experience and no experience in a pro-style offense, his learning curve at the next level is going to be steep. It is great to see the comments about his ability to process information. Trubisky has the skill set, but in order for him to be successful, he has to be able to learn quickly and grow mentally. Early signs point towards that not being an issue.

No matter how you feel about the selection of Trubisky or what the Bears gave up to trade up one spot, it does not matter now. He is the future of the franchise at the quarterback position and simply the most important player on the roster.

If early indications are to be believed, the Chicago Bears have found a strong franchise quarterback to build their team around.
